Eligibility

We accept applications from both individuals and families. The definition of "family" is open and essentially includes any group of one or more persons regardless of gender or marital status, or the presence/absence of children, so long as one family member is at least 18 years old.

Families applying for the Public Housing program must have annual incomes that are less than the HUD Low Income Limit (80% of median income) at the time they move into an apartment or home. The HUD Low Income Limits vary based on location and family size. In Brevard and Transylvania County, they are currently:

  • 1-person family: $30,350
  • 2-person family: $34,650
  • 3-person family: $39,000
  • 4-person family: $43,300
  • 5-person family: $46,800
  • 6-person family: $50,250

There is an additional requirement that at least 40% of annual admissions (move-ins) to the Public Housing program must meet the HUD Extremely Low Income Limits. Those limits are currently:

  • 1-person family: $11,770
  • 2-person family: $15,930
  • 3-person family: $20,090
  • 4-person family: $24,250
  • 5-person family: $28,410
