Community Service Requirement
Under Federal law residents and adult family members who are not employed at least 20 hours per week are required to perform 8 hours of community service per month for Brevard Housing or another agency in the community. There are exemptions to the requirement, including for the elderly (age 62 or over), people with disabilities (if the resident states he/she cannot perform community service) and certain other groups. For a full list of potential exemptions please stop by the office. Residents and their adult household members should not assume they are exempt. Please check with the office.
This is an important Federal requirement you need to meet to keep your Public Housing assistance. We will not be able to renew your lease if you are out of compliance.
Of course the easiest way to be in compliance and maximize your family's income is to be employed at least 20 hours per week. We encourage all residents and other adult household members to pursue that option.
